Why am I suddenly more interested in my skin?

Since I began my skin care journey I have been subscribing to health, beauty, and supplement magazines. What leads me down this path is my post menopause skin and weight gain.  I stopped doing hormone replacement due to the fact I found the side effects concerning for me. It is a personal decision so I in no way would try to sway anyone.  I have an aunt and great aunt that had breast cancer so there is a family history there. I did try the pellets and the creams prior to making the decision to stop.

I have had oily skin most of my life.  I am now combination but mostly dry. I need products that are creamy.  After menopause, your oil glands aren’t as active.  I switched to heavier cream and try to put moisturizer on while my skin is still damp.

I never used sunscreen except when we went to the beach.  I did not think about wearing every day.  I was born in 1961.  As a child and teenager, we were encouraged to get some sun.  I can remember so many times even as an adult when people would comment on how pale I was. A few times it was by men and almost bullying.   I was embarrassed.  No matter how long I laid out in the sun I never tanned.  I freckle.  I loved to lay out and found it therapeutic but I always felt that it had to be worked in as a routine task in the warm months. Just think how much damage I did without knowing the consequences.  I could have had beautiful milky white skin that is now accepted.

Age Spots

I now have age spots on my face, arms, hands, and legs.  You can fade them with exfoliating products that shed dead skins cells. There are skin- lightening products but you have to be diligent. Toners also help even out skin color. Do not forget to moisturize your hands.  I never even thought about my hands.

 Stress, exercise, and Sleep

I had no idea that stress can make your skin drier.  There is so much talk on the benefits of yoga, meditation, and techniques to help with anxiety and stress. Exercise helps with stress and boosts circulation.  The extra oxygen can help your skin look brighter.  The last thing I will mention is sleep.  Lack of sleep can change levels in your metabolism.  For some reason, at this point in my life, I have trouble staying asleep.
