My Thoughts on Being a First Time Grandma

I became a first-time grandma six weeks ago. It was a day I had been looking forward to for a long time. To say I was thrilled would be putting it lightly.

Meeting your Grandchild for the First Time

When Pippa was delivered she had some respiratory problems. She went to NICU and had to spend her first week there. I cannot imagine how scary this was for my son and daughter-in-law. They described the silence when she was born. They listened for crying but heard nothing. I am so proud of how brave they were during this time. I was able to go see her in NICU and it was a little scary.  She is a fighter for sure. It was several days before I got to hold her. I can only describe holding her for the first time as magical.

Watching your Child Parent

To see your child become a parent is a joy.  He and my daughter-in-law work together as a team.  It is beautiful to watch their interactions with Pippa. I want to be as supportive as I can for them. My way of parenting was thirty plus years ago and it was so different.

Great-Grandmother and her Dementia

My mom was diagnosed with dementia last year. It has been a difficult year. When mom and I got the news that there would be a baby coming we were so happy. We felt like we had something wonderful to look forward to. My mom is a pro. She rocks sings and talks to Pippa with a big smile on her face. We both light up when we get to hold her. She has brought the entire family together. My brother is crazy about her.

Taking the Grandparent Role Seriously

I know from experience that time is going to fly. Therefore I want to take an active role in her life. I want to babysit and bond with her. It is great that I live nearby.

Grandma Grandchild Traditions

I am excited to start some traditions with Pippa. I love Disney World and I would love that to be a trip we take together periodically when she gets older. When my son turned two, I could wait no longer to take him there.  We went several times after that, but he does not recall the first trip.  He was too young, but I sure loved it.

When is Grandparent’s Day?

For the first time in my life, I looked up Grandparent’s Day on the calendar today.  Just in case you are wondering it is in September.

How Does it Feel to be a Grandmother?

It feels wonderful to be a Grammy.  We are extremely honored and blessed to have this baby in our lives. I have no doubt she was Heaven Sent. I sure wish my Dad could have met her. Send your stories and tips my way. I have a lot to learn and I want to do this Gammy thing right!

Due to COVID, the ECHO Show has been wonderful

I have been able to visit my son and his family when I am not able to leave my home.  My granddaughter is growing fast and I have missed so much due to the virus.
